During UEFA EURO 2024, the 'Get Trained, Save Lives' campaign took center stage to teach football fans basic life-saving skills.
With only a few days left of UEFA EURO 2024, over 35,000 attendees learned and practiced cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills at fan zones across the 10 host cities.
Supported by a range of current stars and footballing legends, the 'Get Trained, Save Lives' campaign is a partnership between UEFA and the European Resuscitation Council. It aims to raise awareness on the topic of sudden cardiac arrest and the importance of bystander CPR, as well as training people in basic CPR. Fans can learn CPR online on get-trained.com, in-person at the EURO 2024 fan zones, or during training courses offered by the ERC.
At the CPR booths, fans from all 24 participating countries practiced on manikins with sensors that measured the depth and rhythm of their compressions. Their results were compared with other participants in the form of a computer game. Football greats like Clarence Seedorf, Javi Martinez, Ruud Gullit and Mikel John Obi visited the booths to interact and participate in the game.
In addition to fans, the participating EURO 2024 teams have also received life-saving training at their base camps. The initiative has been extended to match officials, staff, and volunteers working at the tournament.
