iRescU, a mobile application designed to help bystanders resuscitate victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), was featured today in a story in AM NewYork about five free mobile apps that can save a life. iRescU is being developed by an international team, led by Nadine Levick, MD, of the EMS Safety Foundation. Among other things, iRescU provides instruction in CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), plus the location of the nearest AED. It may be described as the "Wikipedia" of resuscitation apps, since interested parties worldwide can provide AED locations that will be universally available through cloud technology.
iRescU, which was introduced last fall at a mobile health technology conference featuring Bill Gates as keynote speaker, will be offered as a free public health service. It is expected to debut in November 2011. The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation is part of the iRescU team.
