Rescuer(s):Jody Buntjer
On the morning of September 6, 2025, just before 6:00 AM, Anthony was still in bed. It was a Saturday, and he needed a little extra sleep before heading to work. Jody, his wife, let the dogs out and returned upstairs to their bedroom.
She found Anthony, gasping for air.
There was no confusion. No pause. Jody had CPR training through her work, and in that critical instant, training became action. She moved him onto his back and began chest compressions. With steady hands and focused CPR, she brought him back while calling 911 for help. Every compression and every second mattered. And her immediate response made the difference between life and loss.
Paramedics arrived and took over, continuing lifesaving efforts as Anthony was rushed to the hospital. The fight was not over. At the hospital, Anthony flatlined two more times. Each time, medical teams worked urgently to revive him. Each time, they succeeded.
Knowledge, Courage, Swift Action
Today, Anthony is alive to tell his story because Jody did not hesitate when it mattered most. Her knowledge, her courage, and her swift action saved his life before emergency responders ever reached their home.
Anthony carries deep gratitude not only for the EMTs and hospital staff who continued the battle to keep him alive, but especially for the woman who refused to let the morning end without him.
Every day, he thanks Jody for the simple, powerful truth, that her actions gave him another chance at life.
