Survivor: Jackson Brown

Date of Event:

Location of Event: Home

Rescuer(s):
Sarah Frances Gaines Brown

It was an ordinary Monday morning, and Jackson was in the shower getting ready for work. Sarah Frances, his wife, was awake earlier than usual that day for no particular reason. Their one-year-old was still asleep upstairs.

Sarah called Jackson’s name. No answer. She walked toward the bathroom and saw him slumped over.

Immediate CPR

Sarah grabbed her phone, called 911, and began chest compressions. There was no time to think, no time to panic. She could see faint color returning with each round of compressions. That small sign told her she was doing exactly what he needed. For what felt like an eternity, but was about 10 to 15 minutes, Sarah continued CPR alone.

When paramedics arrived, they took over immediately. Jackson had to be shocked multiple times before his heart finally returned to a stable rhythm. He was rushed to the hospital as Sarah Frances stood in shock, realizing just how close she had come to losing her 32-year-old husband, a man who had always seemed perfectly healthy.

A Hospital Filled with Gratitude

At the hospital, doctors would say it again and again. This was a miracle. And they were clear about one thing. Sarah Frances saved Jackson’s life. Her immediate action. Her refusal to hesitate. Her willingness to begin CPR right away made the critical difference.

They are still searching for the cause of Jackson’s sudden cardiac arrest. But today, there is hope. There is gratitude. There is a survivor.
