Rescuer(s):
Katrina John

On a seemingly ordinary day at Elwood Beach in Australia, a group of people huddled around a man lying motionless on the path. He had suffered a heart attack while running and had collapsed, his pulse absent. An ambulance had been called, but uncertainty hung in the air as onlookers struggled to recall the correct CPR procedure.

Suddenly, Kat, an ex-nurse and the narrator's fiancée, sprang into action. Without a moment's hesitation, she pushed through the crowd, knelt beside the stricken man, and began administering CPR with frantic determination. For three agonizing minutes, she continued, her movements fueled by a desperate hope. Then, a miracle occurred: the man gasped, taking a breath.

Kat's swift intervention had brought him back from the brink of death. She continued to provide life-saving support until the paramedics arrived. With the man in capable hands, Kat simply wished them well and walked away, seeking no praise or recognition for her heroic act. The narrator, witnessing this incredible display of selflessness and skill, was filled with an overwhelming sense of pride.

Kat's actions on that beach in Elwood serve as a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have. Her courage, expertise, and humility are an inspiration to us all.
