A survey was conducted online in the United States by The Harris Poll on behalf of ZOLL Medical from May 27–29, 2025, among 2,095 adults ages 18+.Comparative 2024 data is drawn from a similar Harris Poll conducted May 2–6, 2024, among 2,046 adults ages 18+. For both surveys, results are accurate to within ±2.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.

Selected Findings

  • 92% of Americans report they would do anything to save the life of a family member.

  • 88% believe calling 911 should be the first step in an emergency.

  • 79% report familiarity with CPR; 50% report familiarity with AEDs.

  • 65% feel confident performing CPR; 52% feel confident using an AED.

  • 72% say they would be likely to use an AED if one were available during a cardiac emergency.

Access and Awareness

  • 88% agree that public spaces should have clear signage indicating AED locations.

  • 59% report confidence they could locate an AED in a public space if needed.

  • Only 22% say they always know where the nearest AED is located when attending a youth sporting event.

This survey was conducted as part of ZOLL's Anything Can Happen. Anyone Can Help.™ campaign which aims to close the gap between CPR awareness and action by educating the public that AEDs do more than deliver a shock; they empower bystanders with step-by-step instructions in a cardiac emergency. Building upon previous findings, the campaign is expanding its reach with new collaborators and voices, including professional football player and cardiac arrest survivor Damar Hamlin, joined by college and professional athletes to broaden public awareness.
