Survivor: Kasper Holmes

Date of Event:

Location of Event: Reading, Pennsylvania

Rescuer(s):
Troy Holmes

Early afternoon, on June 16th, 2021, when everything was going just fine and with no signs, Kasper, who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, went into cardiac arrest, flat lined, and needed to be shocked back to life. Elaina called 911 and I performed CPR on him until the medics arrived. We were rushed to a local hospital and then airlifted to Delaware for his usual health team.

He is now fairly stable but still high risk. He been pretty upbeat but is getting delusional at times, stuck on things we did last week and demanding to see his brother, grandmother, and dog. Stuck on repeat and getting emotionally distressed at times.

Tomorrow he'll be getting some MRIs after the last two days of other testings. And we were told that surgery will need to be performed to implant a defibrillator.

It was the scariest experience ever. Life can turn for the worst at any moment. He literally died in my arms at one point. He also told me during all the chaos while at the first hospital, "Dad, Goodbye forever."

I do feel good that all the medical personnel told me that we acted very fast and my performing CPR is why he's alive now.
