PITTSBURGH, PA--Inspired by sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) survivor and board member, Joe Farrell, the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation has announced the “Survivor Milestone Celebration Program,” an initiative aimed at raising funds for the Foundation to support its mission “To raise awareness about sudden cardiac arrest and support programs that give ‘ordinary people’ the power to save a life.”

The Foundation works to raise awareness about the prevention and treatment of SCA—including post-resuscitation care—through educational and research activities. Its vision is clear: “Survival from sudden cardiac arrest can and must become the norm, rather than the exception.”

Farrell celebrated the 10th anniversary of his survival from sudden cardiac arrest on August 9th, 2018. “I have been blessed to enjoy many happy events with family, friends and colleagues ever since,” he said. “During the past decade, my wife Edie and I have dedicated my second chance at life to help save other lives by teaching CPR/AED usage and being involved with numerous heart-related organizations to ‘pay it forward.’ One such organization I am honored to be associated with as a board member is the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation,” he said. “We feel that 10 years warrants a celebration. And so now, we are launching the Survivor Milestone Celebration Program.”

The program is designed to enable sudden cardiac arrest survivors to celebrate milestone anniversaries of their survival, such as the first, fifth, 10th, 15th, 20th and 25th anniversaries, by donating to the SCA Foundation in an effort to pay it forward.

Farrell is leading the way. “I plan to send a personal e-mail to family members, friends and colleagues and share a Facebook post by requesting donations to the Foundation in honor of my 10-year survival celebration. And, I’ll be kicking off the initiative by making a personal contribution.”

The SCA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and all donations are tax-deductible. Funds for this program will be allocated for general purposes to support the organization’s mission.
