TOPEKA, KS--The "Heart Shockers" of Topeka, Kansas, got together this afternoon to celebrate the 19th anniversary of the support group.

Patients with Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators, or ICDs, and their family members joined Heart Shockers to be able to share their experiences living with defibrillators.

Today's “Picnic in the Barn” is an annual event held to help celebrate the group's anniversary.

Defibrillators give people a shock to warn them their heart is in trouble, and that's how the group got its’ name.

The average life span of a defibrillator is five years and can cost as much as $30,000.
