PITTSBURGH, PA--Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation (SCAF) representatives participated in the Third Annual National CPR/AED Awareness Rally & March on June 2-3 in Washington, D.C. They joined heart advocates from 28 organizations and D.C. Fire and EMS in providing CPR/AED demonstrations along the Northwest quadrant of the Washington Monument. Participants included SCA survivors and loved ones, families who have lost children to SCA, industry suppliers, and representatives of other nonprofit organizations.

Advocates also marched to the U.S. Capitol Building and White House to host CPR/AED awareness rallies. Some advocates met with legislators to support the Access to AEDs Act (S1024 and H2370), a bipartisan bill that promotes defibrillation access in schools.

“This event brought together heart advocates from across the nation to create ONE VOICE to help to increase Sudden Cardiac Arrest survival rates. As someone who was saved by bystander CPR when I had my cardiac arrest in 2019, I personally know how important it is that everyone learns CPR. I’m alive today because someone had the skills and jumped in to save my life,” said Ed Kosiec, organizer of the Rally & March and director of Every Second Counts CPR.

“We were excited to be part of the National CPR/AED Rally & March this year,” said Mary Newman, SCAF president. “By joining with heart advocates from around the U.S, we helped increase public awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and the critical importance of bystander CPR and immediate use of AEDs to save more lives.”
