The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation is working with New York Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University Department of Psychiatry on research related to the aftermath of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) survival. The study was originally restricted to survivors in the tri-state region, but has now been expanded.

Researchers at New York State Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University Department of Psychiatry are conducting the Acceptance and Mindfulness Based Exposure Therapy (AMBET) study to investigate a new psychotherapy to treat post-traumatic stress following cardiac arrest survival. Principle investigators are Maja Bergman, MS, and Yuval Neria, PhD.

You may be eligible for participation in the study if you:

  • Are between the ages of 18-81
  • Currently live in the USA*
  • Experienced a sudden cardiac arrest
  • Are fluent in English
  • Have access to internet and a device (computer or smartphone) with a webcam to participate in video sessions via Zoom.
  • Are available to attend eight weekly Zoom sessions with a study therapist.
