2017 ECCU PSA/Video Minute Contest
Sudden cardiac arrest is the third leading cause of death in the U.S., affecting about 1,000 people—including youth—each day outside hospitals. Survival rates are tragically low—on average about 10 percent—due to delayed CPR and treatment with defibrillators.
To bring attention to this public health crisis and the need for immediate bystander intervention with CPR and automated external defibrillators to help save lives, the Citizen CPR Foundation and the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation partnered to conduct a national video competition, the ECCU Video “Minute” Contest. Results were presented at the Emergency Cardiovascular Care Update (ECCU) conference December 8 in New Orleans.
Entries were reviewed, scored, and ranked using a set of evaluation criteria by six judges, three each from the sponsoring organizations. Top submissions were played during the conference.
The first place winner was Parent Heart Watch for its entry, What Would You Miss Most? Other Parent Heart Watch entries won second and third place. Parent Heart Watch is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect youth from sudden cardiac arrest.
Parent Heart Watch executive director Martha Lopez-Anderson, who lost her young son Sean to sudden cardiac arrest, and board member and survivor Steven Tannenbaum accepted the award on behalf of parents everywhere who have lost children to sudden cardiac arrest.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to spread awareness of sudden cardiac arrest in youth and the importance of being prepared in the event of a cardiac emergency. We encourage everyone to share these videos on their social media networks," said Lopez-Anderson.
Physio-Control, now a part of Stryker, will donate a HeartSine AED to Parent Heart Watch in recognition of its top-rated video.

2015 ECCU PSA/Video Minute Contest
The Citizen CPR Foundation and the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation conducted a public service announcement/ “Video Minute” Contest as part of the 2015 Emergency Cardiovascular Care Update, held December 8-11 in San Diego. The organizations recognized the best videos aimed at increasing awareness about sudden cardiac arrest, the importance of citizen CPR, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and /or recognition of a heart attack.
Videos were reviewed, scored, and ranked using a set of evaluation criteria addressing creativity/originality, participant engagement, awareness potential, and consistency with current emergency cardiovascular care guidelines. The judges included three representatives of each organization. The winners were announced during on Friday, December 11.
Bryan Platz and HeartSafe Coon Rapids was named first runner up for One Person, One Decision. The first place winner was How to Perform CPR the Michigan Way, represented by Robert Neumar, MD. Neumar won an automated external defibrillator presented by Paula Lank of Physio-Control.

2014 ECCU PSA/Video Minute Contest
The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation and the Citizen CPR Foundation conducted a "Video Minute” Contest as part of the Emergency Cardiovascular Care Update, June 3-6 in Las Vegas. The purpose of the contest is to increase awareness about sudden cardiac arrest, the importance of bystander CPR and automated external defibrillators, and/or recognition of a heart attack.
Videos were reviewed, scored, and ranked using a set of evaluation criteria addressing creativity/originality, participant engagement, awareness potential, and consistency with current emergency cardiovascular care guidelines. The judges included three representatives of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation and three representatives of the Citizen CPR Foundation.
The first place winner was, HeartSafe Coon Rapids, represented by survivor Tim Hoffman, for their video, Meet Tim. Don't Wait for the Help. BE the Help, received an AED from Physio-Control Corporation and Push Hard & Fast Here t-shirts.

2012 ECCU PSA/Video Minute Contest
The ECCU "Video Minute" Contest is a joint project of the Citizen CPR Foundation and the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation. The 2012 videos were reviewed, scored, and ranked by a panel comprised of representatives of both organizations, using a set of evaluation criteria.
The father-son team of Magnus Backstrom and Wilmer Ansgariusson, from Kavlinge, Sweden, won first place in the 2012 ECCU "Video Minute" contest for their entry, Stayin' Alive.
Tying for second place were the Max Schweitz Foundation with its entry, CPR Hero, and the Hawaii Heart Foundation with its entry, Super Hero.
A public service announcement by the Medtronic Foundation, Heart Rescue Now, came in fourth place, followed by Crowdsourcing Good Samaritans, by Pulsepoint in fifth place.
The Official Jennifer Coolidge AHA Hands Only CPR PSA, the Official AHA Hands-Only CPR Instructional Video, and AEDiva by AED Petition Now received honorable mention.
The first place winner received an AED, donated by Physio-Control, along with the SCA Foundation's Push Hard & Fast Here t-shirts.

2010 ECCU PSA/Video Minute Contest
In 2010, we partnered with the Citizen CPR Foundation for our semi-annual video contest. While our previous video contests focused on schools, this one was open to all interested parties. Applicants were asked to submit videos or public service announcements designed to raise awareness about sudden cardiac arrest and emergency cardiovascular care, including CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
Winning videos, selected by a joint panel of experts, were announced and aired at the Citizen CPR Foundation's Emergency Cardiovascular Care Update in December. Here are the winners:
