IAFC Recommends Use of Mobile Technology to Activate Citizens and First Responders to Improve Sudden Cardiac Arrest Survival Rates

CHANTILLY, VA--The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) supports the use of mobile technology for citizen response in conjunction with community cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) programs. In a position statement adopted May 9, the IAFC Board of Directors cited the PulsePoint mobile phone application (app) as a unique solution to increase survival from sudden cardiac arrest by bridging the gap between a cardiac arrest event and arrival of medical assistance.

Joe Farrell Elected to SCA Foundation Board of Directors

PITTSBURGH, PA--Joe Farrell, PT, M App Sc, DPT, FAPTA has been elected to serve on the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation Board of Directors. Dr. Farrell recently retired as a Doctor of Physical Therapy after 40 years of clinical practice. For over three decades he has been involved in post graduate education as Senior Clinical Fellowship faculty member of the Northern California Kaiser Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship program. He has served on five professional boards during his physical therapy career and is currently serving as Secretary of the PulsePoint Foundation, an Advisory Consultant for the Via Heart Project, and member of the Advisory Committee of the HeartSafe Committee (HSC) of the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District (SRVFPD) in San Ramon, California.

Mission & Vision

The mission of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Foundation is to prevent death and disability from sudden cardiac arrest. The vision of the SCA Foundation is to increase awareness about sudden cardiac arrest and influence attitudinal and behavioral changes that will reduce mortality and morbidity from SCA.
