New Guidance Issued for Treating Cardiac Arrest in Children with Heart Disease

Cardiac arrest occurs at a higher rate in children with heart disease than in healthy children.
The complexity and variability in pediatric heart disease pose unique challenges during resuscitation. A key message is t
he importance of individualizing resuscitation strategies for each patient’s cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.

Saving a child with heart disease whose heart has stopped requires a different approach than reviving a child with a healthy heart, according to a new scientific statement from the American Heart Association.
