Physio-Control Looks to the Future of Emergency Care
The pioneer in portable defibrillation and monitoring technology, Physio-Control continues to define the standard for cardiac emergency care equipment and solutions.

Our LIFEPAK® defibrillators have been carried to the top of Mount Everest and launched into orbit on the International Space Station. Nearly 700,000 units are in use today in schools and other community locations and on fire rescue rigs, ambulances and hospital crash carts worldwide. Since Physio-Control was founded in 1955, our products have helped save tens of thousands of lives and positively impacted countless more.

Even as we bring ground-breaking products to market, some things do not change. As always, the LIFEPAK brand stands for a rugged, portable device customers can trust—every single day. A LIFEPAK device never stands on its own. Our goal is to provide complete solutions for cardiac emergencies—from trained first responders through the hospital. Our products are systems. Everything works together—whether it is accessories, disposables, flexible energy dosing, or data solutions.

When customers buy a LIFEPAK product, they get a leading-edge defibrillator AND the company that stands behind it:

  • The pioneers of prehospital cardiac monitoring and defibrillating equipment
  • Innovators continually at the forefront of improving patient care
  • A company that has been in business for more than five decades
  • Products and solutions designed to support communities in saving lives

Although not everyone can be saved from sudden cardiac arrest, studies show that early defibrillation can dramatically improve survival rates.

Nonprofit Resources and Program Partners

  • Cardiac Arrhythmias Research and Education (Care) Foundation: www.longqt.org
  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (HCMA): www.4hcm.org The Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association provides information, support and advocacy to patients, families, medical care providers and the general community about HCM.  HCM is the leading cause of sudden cardiac arrest in the young, accounting for over 40% of deaths during athletics. HCMA can provide fact sheets, posters, support options for faculty, families and students, and  support documents to assist in implementing an AED program in your school.  For more information visit us on the web at www.4hcm.org
  • Parent Heart Watch: www.parentheartwatch.org Parent Heart Watch is the national voice protecting youth from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and preventable Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD).  Parent Heart Watch leads and empowers others by sharing information, educating and advocating for change.  Parent Heart Watch was established by parents for parents and families that have been affected by Sudden Cardiac Arrest throughout the United States. The members involved with Parent Heart Watch have brought education and awareness about SCA to the forefront, sparking a collaborative effort to mandate change in the attitudes toward SCA. Individually they have changed laws, placed hundreds of AEDs in local communities, and conducted heart screening events for thousands of youth.  Children who die of SCA are most often free of symptoms that would alert anyone about a pre-existing cardiac condition. These children usually pass school and athletic physicals with flying colors. It is our goal to see AEDs in every public place so that communities are more comfortable using them when they are needed.
  • Project Adam: www.projectadam.com. Project ADAM is a nonprofit program of Children’s Hospital of WI. Our mission is to serve children and adolescents throughout education and deployment of life-saving programs that help prevent sudden cardiac death. Project ADAM assists schools nationwide in implementing public access defibrillation (PAD) programs. We help schools determine the need for automated external defibrillators (AEDs), secure funding, provide program templates and assist with marketing efforts. Project ADAM began in 1999 after a series of sudden deaths among high school athletes in southeastern Wisconsin. Many of these deaths appear due to ventricular fibrillation. The project began after Adam Lemel, a 17-year-old Whitefish Bay, Wis., high school student, collapsed and died while playing basketball. Adam's parents—Patty Lemel and Joe Lemel—along with David Ellis, a childhood friend of Adam's, collaborated with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin to create this program in Adam's memory. The Project ADAM model is used nationwide. Affiliate sites include: Project ADAM Florida, Florida Hospital. Youth Heart Watch, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Project S.A.V.E., Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Project ADAM Illinois, Midwest Heart Community Foundation, Alabama Life Start, Children’s Hospital of Alabama.
  • Project S.A.V.E.:  www.choa.org Project S.A.V.E. (Sudden Cardiac Death: Awareness, Vision for Prevention and Education) at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is an affiliate of Project ADAM at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Our mission is to promote prevention of sudden cardiac death in school-age children and adolescents, especially in the school setting. Primary prevention is achieved through use of a comprehensive pre-participation history and physical exam for student athletes and awareness and recognition of signs and symptoms of heart disease by primary care physicians, parents, coaches, PE teachers, school nurses and other adults who work with children, with appropriate referral for warning signs and timely emergency treatment if necessary. Secondary prevention is accomplished through education and consultation with schools on implementation of a comprehensive AED program, including al-staff awareness and AED practice drills, and promotion of CPR/AED education for school staff and middle/high school students. Project S.A.V.E. has worked with schools all over the state of Georgia and has recognized over 600 Project S.A.V.E. HeartSafe schools during the last four school years.  These schools have completed an implementation checklist showing that they have a comprehensive AED/emergency medical response program. We also work with schools to implement Emergency Action Plans for their sports programs in different venues where student athletes practice and play. We educate primary care physicians, school nurses and others about risk of sudden cardiac arrest in the pediatric age group. We also provide training grants to schools to help with CPR/AED education.

Mission & Vision
