My 17 year old son is an SCA survivor (October 18, 2006).  I'd like to know if there is any data on how many survivors of SCA (especially young adults), actually have another event?  If so, how many - what are the statistics?  Thank you.

Dear Edwina, The following

Dear Edwina,

The following message is from Joseph P. Ornato, MD, an adviser to the SCA Foundation, is in response to your inquiry about repeated events for SCA survivors:

"The odds of another arrest are totally dependent on the unique characteristics of each patient and the underlying cause of the first arrest, particularly whether it was a condition that was transient vs. a chronic persistent situation. It is best to ask the individual's personal physician for an assessment of risk."

Best regards,
Mary Newman
